You CAN Free Yourself from Stress and Anxiety
We all experience stress and anxiety from time to time... It's part of what makes us human.
Stress and anxiety heighten our senses... We become more alert. More ready to cope with the situation at hand, whether that situation is a tight deadline, a first date, or a public presentation.
But, if you've been experiencing anxiety and stress on an ongoing or recurring basis for any length of time, then it's time to seek professional help.
And this is especially true if feelings of anxiety and stress are disrupting your ability to function, are keeping you from excelling at work, from sleeping, from going out, or from truly enjoying your relationships and your life!
We can understand who we are – our strengths and weaknesses and how we relate to others and the world in general – by looking at our thoughts, feelings, and underlying beliefs. These, along with the choices we've made, shape our behaviors, attitudes, and reactions to the world around us.
By intentionally exploring our thoughts, emotions, and beliefs about the way the world works, we can create a new perspective, begin to make new choices, and experience others and ourselves in a fresh way.
And this is why...
Anxiety Counseling and Psychotherapy Can Help
Quite often we suppress our emotions because we see being vulnerable as being unsafe. This is okay for a while and can even work to our advantage for a time... But, at some point or another, suppressed emotions eventually come out. And they usually come out in ways we'd least like or expect.
Another common problem I see a lot in my practice is called complex PTSD. This is usually caused by some type of childhood trauma and can often lead to problems like ongoing and recurring anxiety, depression, and drug and alcohol addiction.
By using a variety of psychotherapy and mindfulness-based techniques such as the Hakomi method, I can help you uncover, acknowledge, explore, and modify the limiting thoughts and beliefs from your past that underlie the recurring anxiety and stress that are keeping you from achieving the relationships and life you desire in the present.
Mindfulness is a deliberate state of paying attention in order to learn about ourselves. And by observing your habitual responses without directly engaging them, you'll learn how to make conscious what has previously been only unconscious... and then change those unconscious thoughts, feelings, and reactions to ones that actually help!
You'll learn to cope with strong emotions and express them, without overwhelming others... or being overwhelmed by them yourself.
Mindfulness techniques like Hakomi are often very direct routes for discovering and healing past emotional wounds – we won't be spending session after session "simply talking about your problems or your childhood."
In fact, much of the work I do with clients often feels as much, if not more, like coaching than traditional "talk therapy."
I work with clients to better understand their own strengths and develop strategies and techniques to help them to meet and overcome the challenges they face.
This is often accomplished in three phases:
1) Immediate relief from discomfort and pain;
2) Learning to get out of your own way; and
3) Regaining lost motivation and energy and rediscovering meaning.
Creating change takes hard work and no small amount of motivation. But, it may not be as difficult as you think...
And, if you truly desire change and are willing to work for it, you CAN open yourself up to experiencing and enjoying life in a much more profound way.
What have you got to lose?
You can either keep doing the same things you've been doing, which haven't been working or you wouldn't be here. Or you can finally get the professional help you need and deserve!
So, contact me today at 650-417-3561 or at [email protected] to learn more about how the anxiety counseling and stress management techniques I offer can help you reclaim control of your life or to schedule a free 20-minute initial phone consultation.
