Hi! My name is Sarangan Sivanesan. People call me Saru.
I want to help you create the balance between your left and right brain, between thinking and feeling, between doing and being that’s so integral to living a full and complete life.
I understand what it means to waste mental cycles on trivial things and how powerful it feels to reclaim them… To know that you can devote yourself to anything with 100% of your energy and enthusiasm!
Prior to becoming a professional counselor and psychotherapist, I was a software engineer for over two decades, working at companies such as Ciena, Palm, and Microsoft.
My undergraduate degree is a Bachelor of Mathematics with specialization in Computer Science.
Nowadays, I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, # 90585. I received my MA in Counseling Psychology from the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology in 2011.
As a therapist, I use an eclectic blend of healing modalities based on my client’s individual needs and goals. We’re all unique individuals with our own specific issues and ways of coping and interacting with the world around us. So, one thing I don’t do is provide “cookie-cutter” therapy!
My basic approach to therapy is to provide a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental space in which you can explore the different parts of your self, determine what needs healing, what needs change, and go about making those changes happen.
I am trained in Existential-Humanistic psychology and a mindfulness-based psycho-somatic modality called the Hakomi method. In addition to this, I use mindfulness, cognitive behavioral therapy and creative expression as and when needed.
I have taught anger management classes at Turning Point, Parenting Without Violence classes for the San Jose Family Resource Center, and have trained in running process groups since 2009 at the International Institute of Humanistic Studies. I am also a member of both the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists and the local Santa Clara Valley Chapter of the same organization.
And, since life is about more than just my professional role… I enjoy yoga, hiking, listening to music, meditating, cooking, traveling and gardening.
My goal is to help people like you cultivate emotional intelligence and empathy without being afraid of being taken advantage of… In fact, to realize that there is an unparalleled strength that comes from being in touch with your emotions and being able to express your self and be vulnerable.
I enjoy seeing people become at ease with accessing their feelings and realizing that it is not as difficult as they thought it would be… And I truly love the work I do!
I encourage you to learn more about the various services I offer by clicking the links above, or contact me today at 650-417-3561 or at saru.sivanesan@gmail.com to ask any questions you have or schedule a free 20-minute initial phone consultation. I look forward to speaking with you and supporting you in any way I can.
